Moutai is renowned as a prestigious liquor, representing Chinese culture and its fragrance spreading across the world. Guizhou Moutai, in collaboration with its Malaysian distributor, MTI International Sdn Bhd, hosted the "National Banquet-Grade Moutai Guyu Tasting Event" at the Kuala Lumpur Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry building, to share the history, culture, and craftsmanship of Moutai.
The grand feast featured a tasting of two Moutai varieties: "Feitian Moutai" and "Premium Moutai" (53% alcohol content/500ml). Both are produced in the core protected production area of Guizhou Moutai, using high-quality local glutinous sorghum, wheat, and water as raw materials. They are brewed with a unique and scientific traditional process, crafted with sincerity. From the liquor itself to its packaging, every aspect is a fine representation of the finest liquor.
The Feitian Moutai bottle is milky white, paired with red labels, ribbons, and a cap, showcasing the rich historical heritage of Moutai. It is crafted by blending nearly 200 different-aged base liquors using the "wine blending" method, carefully mixed over a period of five years. The result is a liquor with a prominent sauce fragrance, a delicate, elegant, and rich taste, and a lasting aroma that lingers in the empty cup.
The Premium Moutai uses a ceramic jar in a sauce-colored hue, with the subtitle "Premium" printed in a seal-style small seal script, evoking an ancient and steady texture. First introduced in 2003, it has a fragrance of caramel, burnt, and cellar aromas, with hints of fruity, floral, and roasted scents. The taste is rich and smooth, without any harshness in the throat, leaving a lingering fragrance that is both pleasant and memorable.
Zhu Yilin, the General Manager of MTI International, guided the guests through the tasting of Moutai using five steps: "Observe the color," "Smell the aroma," "Taste the flavor," "Touch the texture," and "Empty cup aroma." A scent area and viewing area were set up on-site, and a video was shown to introduce the history of Moutai, spanning over 800 years, as well as the 30 production processes and 165 craft stages involved in its meticulous creation.
After the tasting session, the guests filled out tasting cards, shared their thoughts on the wine, and exchanged experiences and preferences regarding Moutai, while appreciating the profound depth of Chinese brewing culture.
